History Of Sekolah Relawan

The 2004 Aceh tsunami was a turning point in the world of volunteerism in Indonesia. The humanitarian tragedy that claimed hundreds of thousands of victims awakened our conscience to act together on behalf of humanity. Since then, many volunteer communities spring up like mushrooms.

With more than 20 years of experience in the humanitarian world, the founders of Sekolah Relawan realized that most volunteers who go to disaster areas are armed only with enthusiasm. Not many volunteers have the skills and capacities, both technically and in terms of sufficient knowledge, when taking action in the fields of responding to disaster, social humanitarian, and community development.

In response to this,on January 13, 2013, Sekolah Relawan was established as a community that shares knowledge and views related to volunteerism. Furthermore, on January 21, 2016, Sekolah Relawan finally legally became a foundation that focuses on volunteer education and is supported by three other programs, i.e. Social Humanitarian Programs, Community Development and Advocacy.
